Firm History

In 1999, after working for two of Michigan's largest law firms, Matthew R. Halpin established his own firm with the intent of forging new ground in the way the practice of law is conducted. Soon after establishing Matthew R. Halpin & Associates, P.C., it became clear that a number of companies were in need of legal counsel that had the requisite amount of legal experience and the technical savvy to react as fast as modern technology itself.

Matthew Halpin & Associates P.C. has been able to consistently provide its clients with this type of legal support by prioritizing its communication with its clients and investing in the most current hardware and software to be accessible to clients, opposing counsel and the courts in a myriad of ways.

In September of 2008, Matthew R. Halpin & Associates PC moved it offices to the Lincoln Centre in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.  These new offices further the firm’s ability to support its clients with improved technologies and dedicated videoconferencing for out-of-state clients.  The new office is affiliated with the Regus Office Network which provides the firm and its clients with access to conference rooms, telephones, Internet connectivity and support staff throughout the United States and literally around the world.

Given his ever-growing experience and reputation, Matthew Halpin has been asked to comment on many business related legal issues for several newspapers, radio stations and television stations.  Based on his exerience, Mr. Halpin has been made a beta-user for the U.S. Copyright Office's Online Digital Filing System.

Most recently, while working with the Michigan State Bar’s E-Filing Task Force, Mr. Halpin proposed a change to the Michigan Court Rules that would allow attorneys to officially e-mail documents to each other and avoid the costs of paper, postage, mileage, storage and personal service that would be ultimately be passed on the attorney’s respective clients. In September of 2005, the Michigan State Bar Representative Assembly unanimously approved this proposed amendment. On October 16, 2007 the Michigan Supreme Court adopted this rule change.   As of January 1, 2008, Michigan Court Rule 2.107 will reflect the change that Mr. Halpin was directly involved in drafting.  Michigan is the first state in the union to adopt such a rule.  Mr. Halpin directly contributed to this idea become a reality.

Now based in the Chicago area, ChicagoCyberlaw can provide even greater service with added business growth and a centralized location in the heart of the Midwest.
